Join us at this year’s extravaganza in celebration of PPN’s 50th anniversary! You can gather with colleagues for your choice of seminars in the afternoon, and then spend an evening at the book show networking over some of the best book designs to be published on the West Coast and beyond.

About the Book Show

After the mini-conference, you’ll be able to join in the excitement at the book show by voting for Best in Show, choosing from the 10 category winners.

The evening will feature

• Displays of this year’s book show winners and entrants
• Presentation of the annual Distinguished Service Award
• Hors d’oeuvres and assorted beverages, including wine and beer (no-host bar)

About the Mini-Conference

Each attendee at the mini-conference will be able to choose two seminars to attend from a total of four offered, with two presentations running concurrently for each of two sessions. Seminar offerings are as follows:

Technological developments present many opportunities for conveying information in new ways, but which developments are actually useful and which are just fads? Join our expert panelists for a discussion of how to work with content—whether it’s text, graphics, video, or a combination of elements—to promote knowledge transfer from authors to consumers, and what technology can do to support this.
The Art of Relationships
How do book designers build and strengthen their relationships with art directors? A positive rapport between designer and director can be critical for securing steady work, building a sustainable roster of clients, and making a name for yourself in the industry. Join our panel of experts for an in-depth conversation on how they navigate vital working relationships and develop their design careers.

The future of publishing is changing at a rapid pace, driven by shifts in retailers, shifts in how people consume and find content, and rapidly shrinking profit margins. Our panel is excited to share some of the innovations publishers are putting into place as they move toward a future that looks very different than publishing looked 50 years ago.

Our current economic and political environment is presenting yet more book-delivery challenges. Join two print and distribution specialists for a lively discussion of current printing and distribution issues.
