SUMMARY:MWA NorCal explores AI
DESCRIPTION:MWA NorCal invites you to a 6-session Zoom series to explore different aspects of AI. What is it—an existential threat or a cool new set of tools? Maybe both? What we know for sure is that it’s all around us and it’s here to stay. So\, join us on the third Saturday of the month as we try to figure out how to make sense of it\, what to be wary of\, and how to use it ethically as authors. \nEach Zoom session will explore a different capability of AI. Join when you can\, for what interests you. You won’t be lost if you can’t make them all. You need to register for these Zoom sessions. Please use the links below. \nThe AI landscape is changing quickly\, and we’ll change topics if something new and interesting comes up\, but for now the topics we plan to cover include: \n\nAn Introduction to Generative AI – What is it and why should writers care?\n\nSaturday\, July 27  @ 2:00 pm (rescheduled): Watch it HERE.\n\n\nGenerative AI and Words – How it works\, tools you might find useful\, and how to protect your own writing.\n\nSaturday\, August 17 @ 2:00 pm: Sign up HERE.\n\n\nGenerative AI and Images – We’ll play with the mind-blowing capabilities of image-creation tools and figure out how to use them ethically.\n\nSaturday\, September 21 @ 2:00 pm: Sign up HERE.\n\n\nGenerative AI and Web Design – We’ll look at music\, video\, and design environments for creating compelling websites and marketing pieces.\n\nSaturday\, October 19: Sign up HERE.\n\n\nGenerative AI and Voice – We’ll explore options for generating audiobooks.\n\nSaturday\, November 16: Sign up HERE.\n\n\nAI and Translation – From including multiple languages in your work to translating your entire backlist\, what’s possible with AI translation tools?\n\nSaturday\, December 21: Sign up HERE

SUMMARY:Editors + AI = ?? An Introduction to the Future of Editing
DESCRIPTION:As an editor\, have you test-driven any artificial intelligence (AI) technology programs yet? Or maybe you’ve already jumped in and are refining your opinion about the value of using AI tech applications in your editorial work? Do you view AI as a threat or a tool…or maybe as both? \nPlease join us when Erin Servais\, editor and AI expert\, walks us through an overview of AI\, guides us through AI functionalities in an editorial workflow via several use cases\, and offers her forecast of how AI will affect the editing profession. We can discuss facts vs fiction and compare notes\, as we consider the effects of AI increasingly being integrated into our ever-evolving industry. Bring your questions! \nErin Servais launched AI for Editors in 2023 as a training program designed to enable editing professionals to incorporate AI technology tools effectively and ethically in their work. Erin is a board member of ACES: The Society for Editing and a UC San Diego copyediting instructor.
