When they look at current cover design trends\, is their first thought Great! or Hate!\n\n\n\nWatch seasoned cover designers give their rapid-fire hot takes on recent covers from a variety of genres. And beyond initial reactions\, they’ll discuss what principles of design they’re seeing upheld or ignored. Whether you create cover designs\, promote books\, or just like to judge a book’s cover\, you’ll get a good review of the fundamentals and see plenty of examples of design that hits its mark or misses. \nVeteran book designer Victor Mingovits will lead the discussion with Bay Area designers Nita Ybarra and Mike Nicholls\, with time for audience questions. \n\n\nMike Nicholls is an Oakland-based creative director and visual artist with over 20 years of experience in design\, media\, and storytelling. He founded Umber\, a cultural media platform centering art\, design\, and music. His work has been featured by AfroTech\, PRINT Magazine\, CreativeMornings\, SF Design Week\, and more. His life’s purpose is to use design\, storytelling\, and visual art to connect people with the culture that inspires them. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNita Ybarra\, a graphic designer\, has been in the publishing industry for 30+ years\, specializing in book covers and book interior designs. Her goal is always to provide her clients with meaningful\, creative design solutions.
