Providing educational resources and opportunities for all individuals involved in book and book-related publishing.

Information for Potential Guest Participants

The Publishing Professionals Network is pleased to announce our winter 2019–2020 One-Day Publishing Immersion Program, with an application deadline of October 25. PPN is a nonprofit association that provides educational resources and opportunities for individuals involved in book and book-related publishing. The goal of our immersion program is to provide real-world educational opportunities to aspiring publishing professionals. We are seeking guest participants who have demonstrated interest in publishing and who are considering a career in the business. We hope to provide guests with a hands-on introduction to publishing and to enable them to become more competitive candidates for full internships or entry-level positions. The program will be free to selected participants.

Applications for the winter 2019–2020 program are due October 25. Applicants selected to participate in the program will be notified by November 15, 2019.

Guest participants in the PPN immersion program will have an opportunity to visit a San Francisco Bay Area publishing house for a typical workday, from about 10:00 am. until 3:00 p.m. Itineraries might include some or all of the following:

  • Informational interviews with members of different departments (e.g., marketing, production, acquisitions)
  • Job shadowing
  • Attendance at key meetings
  • Pre-assigned reading (e.g., a proposal for a book to be discussed at a publishing meeting)
  • Demonstrations of internal systems

Candidates for participation should submit a completed application for potential guest participants, together with a résumé. A committee of PPN board members will match selected participants with hosting companies based on interests and skills. People of color, members of the LGBQT community, and differently abled individuals are encouraged to apply. Selected individuals will be required to sign a nondisclosure agreement before entering a host’s premise.

Please reach out to with any questions about the program. We hope that this will be a fun and rewarding program for both hosts and participants!
