Berrett-Koehler Publishers is currently seeking a creative and organized intern for our Editorial Department. As an intern, you will work with the Editorial team for 20 hours a week for three months. This is a remote opportunity, so the work will be flexible and often independent.

• Rising juniors or seniors, graduate students, or recent graduates interested in exploring a career in book publishing and/or editorial work
• Self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Possess a desire to learn as well as excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights – not shy about sharing your opinion and editorial feedback
• Resourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently
• Committed to the BK mission of creating a world that works for all
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel

• Draft feedback and respond to manuscript submissions
• Oversee the inbox for the BK submissions email
• Minimum of three in-depth reviews of draft manuscripts for current Berrett-Koehler projects
• Partner with BK Professional to identify and recruit eligible reviewers
• Actively participate on the BK editorial team, providing feedback in meetings on potential projects and authors
• Draft Tip Sheets to be used internally for potential projects
• Track publishing trends in the Berrett-Koehler niche, and identify competitive titles
• Draft marketing copy to be use externally for Publisher’s Lunch announcements
• Assist with general administrative duties as requested

• We will consider remote employment from the four time zones of the continental United States. The position is required to work 9:00 to 5:30 pm Pacific time

The preferred start date for this position is June 1.

• $15/hour, 20 hours/week
• 3 months (June-August)
