Publishing Professionals Network (PPN) is looking for someone with stellar admin skills to work several hours a month supporting the smooth functioning of this convivial professional organization. PPNis a nonprofit association providing educational resources and opportunities for all individuals involved in book and book-related publishing. Founded in San Francisco as Bookbuilders West in 1969, it was rechartered as PPN in 2012 to reflect the changing nature of long-form content publishing and embrace all the partnerships that exist within our industry.

Job description:Administrative Assistant to publishing nonprofit group in the SF Bay Area. Hours will generally range from 5 to 10 hours monthly except for the months of the year leading up our annual Book Show Judging and Event (October and January), when more support will be required (approximately 30 hours for those two months).

Hourly wage: $25.00/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the operations email address, corresponding with members and forwarding relevant email to board members (twice weekly).
  • Monitor the events email address, corresponding with event planners and forwarding relevant email to board members (twice weekly).
  • Member relations: field queries, coordinate with board as noted above.
  • Membership support: maintain membership list, help with outreach.
  • Member renewal: send annual renewal invoices and track payments.
  • Attend monthly board meetings and take notes.
  • Assist with events: make reservations, act as contact for vendors, maintain attendee lists, produce badges.
  • Book show support: log entries, print ballots, assist with judging day, assist with show set up, take down, registration.
  • Website: post new jobs and take down old ones; add new freelancers to directory; add events to online events calendar; update mailing list spreadsheet, maintain board member page.
  • Assist with formatting and sending email blasts and newsletters.
  • Preferred skills: proficiency with MailChimp, Twitter, and WordPress.
