Art Director in San Francisco | Pearson

We’re looking for Art Directors that are storytellers and creators, using design to bring interactive educational ideas to life. They drive projects into new areas with interactive thinking, working with Learning and Instructional Designers to be the yin to their yang. They are design fundamentalists, but approach projects with open and innovative mindsets.

Here’s what you should know about being an Art Director at Pearson:

On any given day you might

  • Collaborate with authors, instructional designers, and product, design and development teams to concept and craft interactive experiences that engage learners and drive learning outcomes
  • Design complex interactives and experiences that span devices and screens
  • Oversee the creation and production of design solutions for our learning and instructional products, whether that be with internal production teams or external vendors and agencies
  • Collaborate with Experience Designers to execute how the interactive content works within a product or application
  • Work with and mentor junior creatives, guiding them to push their work to new levels
  • Partner with other disciplines when possible to create the best possible work

  • Can lead the experience vision for large, complex interactive efforts
  • Is an expert in the areas of interactive experiences, channels, and design principles
  • Brings big ideas to help continuously raise the bar in education
  • Is a conceptual thinker and storyteller, using sketches, mood boards, design mockups and other artifacts & prototypes to tackle any medium or output
  • Finds delight in details and overarching aesthetic
  • Is an expert at crafting experiences by utilizing color theory, photography, video, typography, layout, and illustration
  • Is concerned with the continuity of a learning experience, thinking holistically and able to create a choreographed & unified experience
  • Thinks usability first, and is aware of accessibility WCAG regulations and best practices, and how those will directly impact and guide their experiences
  • Enjoys mentoring junior designers and is interested in cultivating strong leadership skills
  • Is a fresh thinker who embraces challenges and new methods of thinking
  • Can inspire and lead a team through multiple on-going projects and timelines
  • Is self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong communications skills

You bring

  • 5 years’ design experience in digital product design, web and desktop product design and traditional design mechanics like color theory, UI design & typography
  • Proficiency in Mac OSX, Sketch, Adobe CC (specifically Illustrator, Photoshop)
