Position Summary

Hay House is adding a Book Marketing Director to oversee and drive the achievement of our physical and digital book marketing including online digital marketing, book publicity and trade book initiatives. Reporting to our Editorial Vice President, this personal development book marketing visionary will collaborate and partner with publishers, authors, and agents to create and execute inspirational direct marketing and PR strategies for product launches in our book division helping more people improve the quality of their lives.

Responsibilities and Expertise

  • Work closely with the editorial, and cross functional online marketing team to create, communicate, and implement results-oriented book launch campaigns for all frontlist and backlist products.
  • Collaborate directly with publishers, authors, and agents to communicate and execute marketing plans externally and internally.
  • Clearly identify the potential target audiences for a publication and continually refines targeting and messaging to maximize product sales in trade and D2C channels.
  • Develop campaign launch strategies and manage staff to execute campaign/product launch activities.
  • Develop strategy for social platforms with cross functional teams and authors.
  • Flexibly manage book promotion plans and budgets that grow and change over time.
  • Collaborate with authors to maximize campaign reach in various channels, helping to build author brands and platforms.
  • Leverage resources and analytics for more effective targeting and messaging.
  • Partner Management: Support and manage relationships with authors; liaise with author and team to execute book marketing & PR initiatives.
  • Creative Marketing & Content Development: Lead with a creative mindset, from introducing new strategies to integrating unexpected unique opportunities into the marketing campaign to maximize exposure.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Communicate to internal team whats working and not working; utilize analytics data to evaluate campaign results; evaluate internal and competitive digital campaign performances to determine each promotions success and areas of opportunity/growth.
  • Manage content production for all channels of campaign such as websites, email, and social channels including but not limited to:
    • Expanding and overseeing promotion and D2C communication
    • Strategically directing social media campaigns
    • Optimizing Amazon opportunities, brand promotion, SEO and A+ Pages
    • Co-collaborating and supporting website strategies for D2C sales opportunities
    • Oversee and implement metadata/SEO opportunities (Amazon)
  • Work Cross collaboratively with the cross functional teams such as Marketing Operations/Email Marketing, Customer Support, Ecommerce/Web Marketing, Course Development, and Membership teams to ensure cross coordination of campaign launches.
  • Hire, lead, develop and manage performance of digital marketing staff.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage a large and diverse staff
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Knowledge of digital/online marketing, sales funnels, incentives, social media channels, and PR tactics
  • Extensive database marketing knowledge and growth tactics
  • Technological proficiency for use of the personal computer, Microsoft Excel, Word, internet, and project tracking software, project management software

Education and/or Experience

  • 8-10 years of book publishing experience or equivalent industry
  • Bachelors degree in marketing or related field
  • Experience in email marketing, bestseller campaigns, social media, and PR/media promotion
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing tactics
