Cambridge University Press is looking for a talented person to join the Academic Books team as an Acquisitions Editor for Higher Education products. If you have experience in textbook publishing, or in HE teaching, and want to join an international team of friendly, hard-working, and innovative publishing professionals, we would be delighted to hear from you.

You will focus on contributing to the profitability, quality, and impact of our publishing in Economics and Political Science by researching, commissioning and developing a list of textbooks and other forms of pedagogical content in print and digital formats for undergraduate and graduate students. HE is a central priority for our lists in the social sciences, and you will be encouraged to look for innovative approaches to both traditional and digital products, and to travel widely to seek opportunities. You will report to an Executive Publisher based in Cambridge, UK, and work closely with a team of editors and online course developers working in New York and in Cambridge, and with our HE Development Team.

Requirements

We are looking for an editor with at least 3 years commissioning experience in academic publishing, with significant experience of the HE sector, and ideally in the social sciences. We will expect the candidate to be comfortable working within a team, with excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills. Candidates will be educated to at least degree level, preferably in an HSS discipline.

The position will be based in the United States, either in our New York office or from a home location. The successful candidate will be expected to travel to research and develop the lists through campus visits and attendance at relevant conferences. As part of an international team, there is a close working relationship with colleagues in New York and Cambridge, UK, so you would be join a globally run, innovative business, with significant responsibility for the right individual.

The Editor would be required to demonstrate understanding of the industry and the market, and would be expected to work without close supervision.
