Editorial Manager, Architecture and Engineering | Kaplan

The Editorial Manager is accountable for assessing Architecture and Engineering’s editorial needs, allocating appropriate editorial resources, and performing quality assurance reviews to ensure all products meet their defined scope and the Architecture and Engineering product quality standards. Additionally, this role is responsible for the performance and continuous improvement of the editorial team. The editorial management work may include assessing, planning, resourcing, innovating, managing, mentoring/training, problem-solving, and reporting related to people, products, and processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create editorial plans for ​​all products that meet market and business needs.
  • Perform editorial assessments of incoming work in order to estimate needed work, budget, time, and resources.
  • Review work performed by the editorial operations team to ensure successful execution of product plans to quality standards.
  • Train and mentor editorial staff.
  • Build and manage a network of dependable outsourced editorial talent.
  • Make continuous improvements to departmental or company processes using quantitative metrics to guide.

​Minimum Qualifications: ​

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent ​work experience ​
  • 5 years of experience in editorial content ​
  • 2 years of experience managing teams
  • Advanced Excel and Acrobat skills desired. XML/HTML experience preferred.
  • Light copy editing and writing, strong proofreading, and fact-checking skills, using The Chicago Manual of Style and in-house style guide.
  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to work in a high-pressure environment, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and shift quickly to meet deadlines.
  • Exacting attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience working on complex projects (up to 100 elements, 500+ pages).
  • Capacity to work with little supervision, yet receive feedback constructively, to be held accountable to meeting established goals.
  • Enhanced communication and interpersonal skills to be successful in a team environment.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills that will allow ​the ​individual to provide constructive feedback.
