Executive Director, Marketing | Chronicle Books

The Executive Director of Marketing is responsible for the overall marketing strategy for Chronicle Books. This strategy includes increasing trade and consumer recognition of the company brand and creating marketing and publicity plans which drive consumer sales of titles and series. This position leads the company in its understanding of the consumer and marketplace trends and the most innovative ways to reach the end consumer.

This position will also be responsible for overseeing all ecommerce and performance marketing and will own the success of the company’s largest revenue channel. Leveraging Chronicle Books and its clients’ award-winning product catalog, this role will apply industry best practices and out of the box thinking to drive consistent annual growth in an ever-changing ecommerce and digital marketing landscape.

The Executive Director of Marketing will set annual strategy and execution plans, manage the marketing spend and attribution, demonstrate leadership that inspires an innovative culture of mutual accountability, and work with directors in setting and meeting department goals. In addition, the Executive Director will manage an internal performance marketing team, oversee processes to measure marketing metrics, and act as a partner with other departments.

Candidates will have strong leadership and team-building skills, a proven track record in a senior level marketing position, strategic planning and business development experience and be able to lead and manage a diverse group of individuals. Candidates should have 10+ years in roles meeting growth metric and team leadership goals, 3+ years’ experience owning traffic and conversion on Amazon, and paid search experience using Google ads, Amazon advertising, etc. A solid understanding of email marketing, paid social, and 1st party ecommerce is required, along with fluency in Excel (pivots, shortcuts, etc.), and experience building performance dashboards from scratch in Excel or another platform. Bonus: experience managing customer journey, including customer segmentation.
