Job Description

The Marketing & eCommerce Director is a hands on, data driven position responsible for leading a full time and freelance marketing & e-commerce team. The role is responsible for creating and managing the annual budget, implementing mass reach PR and marketing campaigns, managing online advertising spend/conversion and driving continuous pre order and post launch demand for our portfolio of licensed and unlicensed books and gift products. You have proven experience in digital marketing, creating and leveraging strategic partnerships & affiliate programs and managing 100s of products across a diverse B2B and DTC distribution network.

We work in a fast moving, high-energy, high-demand environment requiring detailed management, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills to produce impactful and measurable sell-through programs for a diverse product assortment. We are seeking an experienced and proven Marketing & eCommerce leader who has a record of managing and developing an entrepreneurial team, creating cost effective plans to continuously activate fan demand and measuring success using data analytics. The ideal candidate is enterprising, resourceful, deadline driven and a champion for our brand, your staff and our valued licensors, customers, fans and strategic partners.

This position reports to the Chief Strategy & Growth Officer and will oversee day-to-day operations of marketing, publicity, digital and video production staff based in the Bay area and remotely. You will be part of, and work collaboratively with, Insight’s Senior Management team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field
  • 10+ Years of Experience in Digital Marketing and strategic consumer marketing
  • Experience in Toy / Gift / Publishing / Videogames / Comics is preferred




  • Manage the paid acquisition efforts on Amazon, including the optimization of product listings, creation of A+ content, managing AMS advertising campaigns and optimizing keywords, bid levels and product targeting on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage and grow our digital marketing programs to increase traffic and conversion on our websites, including all updates and implementation of promotions, deals, content and custom licensor/partner programs.
  • Work with other Marketing and Publicity staff to develop execute Web Site promotion calendar and develop B2C marketing strategies for all new releases and key evergreen products
  • Create, execute and optimize our B2B and B2C email marketing programs.
  • Work with internal partners to create, optimize and maintain online listings across e-commerce platforms.
  • Own day-to-day management of paid search campaigns including keyword generation, ad copy testing, bid management, landing page optimization, budget management, etc
  • Implement search engine optimization strategies to improve traffic and performance for Google and YouTube
  • Identify and test new user acquisition channels and partnerships
  • Manage and optimize social marketing activities and channels.



  • Analyze POS and trend data to draw key recommendations to enhance our product portfolio, eCommerce and website optimization, email marketing and business development opportunities
  • In partnership with the sales teams, maintain a dashboard tracking product sell through, sales velocity and competitive ranking
  • Recommend, create and maintain a metrics dashboard tracking the effectiveness of all marketing programs and campaigns.
  • Gather and analyze customer insight from primary and secondary sources.
  • Propose and take calculated risks based on data-driven analytics.



  • Deepen relationships with all media to ensure the most effective messaging and positioning of the organization to drive product awareness and engagement
  • Nurture and enrich all external perceptions of the company and market share growth
  • Engage consumers on social media, growing our subscription numbers across all active social media platforms
  • Conduct social media audits to ensure best practices are implemented



  • Collaborate with high-profile licensors to develop online B2C marketing strategies including web promotions and consumer contests
  • Develop partnerships and affiliate programs with all licensors, brands, NGO’s, foundations, and other organizations to drive e-commerce
  • Prepare and develop video presentations targeting B2C channels for designated key products to impact sell in and premium placement
  • Collaborate with sales and sourcing to develop strategic partnership activities and implement the execution framework and strategic plan on identified opportunities
  • Coordinate and attend author events and trade shows when needed, including managing vendors and agencies for high profile consumer events such as Comic Con, Star Wars Celebration, Disney D23 and other identified trade show opportunities



  • Oversee creation and delivery of press releases, advertisements, video trailers and other marketing materials
  • Lead all areas of brand and product marketing, content generation and production across all media platforms


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge and skills with content management systems and ecommerce tools
  • Expert proficiency with Google AdWords, Facebook Ads Manager & Content Editor
  • Expert proficiency with executing paid AMS campaigns and working within the Amazon ecosystem
  • Highly skilled at working with licensed properties, brands, and retailers
  • Proven ability to deliver marketing results that directly impact company sales performance across multiple distribution channels
  • Strong experience leading a team with multiple direct reports, including hiring, coaching and developing individuals for success.
  • Strong ability to mentor and guide assigned staff, prioritize work and resources, and provide timely and clear critical feedback
  • Highly proficient with the creation of processes and systems to improve organizational efficiency and performance;
  • Ability to engage cross functional partners to drive sales & product development
  • Proven success and ability in managing a high volume of SKUs and product lines across a diverse distribution network
  • In-depth knowledge of SEO; demonstrated experience improving search traffic
  • Savvy, knowledgeable, and passionate about social media platforms and best practices, including experience running social media marketing campaigns
  • Firm understanding of marketing and acquisition metrics including, but not limited to CPA, CPL, CPC, LTV, and Churn; consistent focus; methodical reporting
  • Strong quantitative, analytical,and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage resources across multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills
  • Highly proficient in problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and to remain focused on goals while navigating unforeseen changes and critical feedback
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
