Product Manager | Macmillan

Macmillan Learning is seeking a Product Manager who will be responsible for helping to improve student learning outcomes and enhancing instructor capabilities in Macmillan’s digital learning tools by building intuitive and empowering instructor- and student-facing courseware that will have a measurable impact on student success. This role requires an analytical thinker and confident communicator who makes data-driven decisions to drive product direction. This role will focus on optimizing the user journey and own the digital product roadmap, for instructors and students in our Achieve courseware.

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of UX designers, learning researchers, learning analytics, product managers, engineers, and stakeholders, to shepherd ideas through discovery, design, development, and market release/support.
  • Create and evangelize a vision that delivers research-based, valuable, usable, and actionable data insights for instructors and students within their digital learning products, at the portfolio and product level.
  • Work collaboratively with technology partners to develop and deliver high-value product capabilities. This role will act as the Product Owner within an agile scrum team, and be the author of epics and stories.
  • This role will be responsible for executing in all phases of the product development life cycle to drive initiatives in a transparent and timely manner.
  • Participate in discovery research efforts directly with current and prospective users, gathering feedback and insights that help drive the vision and roadmap.
  • Measure and present the impact of your team’s work in alignment with OKRs directly to the leadership team, quantifying the impact of your initiatives.


This role can be worked remotely from anywhere in the USA but requires occasional travel to Macmillan offices in NY, Austin, Boston, etc and to college campuses and bookstores.


  • Product Management Certification highly desired
  • Agile PO certification highly desired



  • At least 1 years’ experience as a product manager required
  • Proven experience using data analytics aligned to OKRs to drive discovery and monitor features
  • Proven ability with active decision making skills in order to assess the market, perform complex analysis, and draw sound conclusions that lead to usable products and satisfied customers.
  • Strong presentation skills used for presenting internally to leadership team members as well as running customer discovery sessions such as user groups and product demos
  • Excellent time management skills and able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoys adapting to feedback from both users and internal stakeholders, building stronger products as a result
  • Strong leadership skills to ensure that everyone is driving towards the product goals together
  • Passionate about education and eager to continually learn about the customers we serve (customers and students)
  • Competitive and always striving to improve upon and beat major competitors
  • Willingness to travel as needed and occasionally be accessible by phone during off-hours to help resolve customer or partner issues.
  • Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Records check required due to travel and interactions.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in an EdTech product manager role
  • Work experience in higher education
  • Experience with Pendo or other data analytics systems
