This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are interested in a position that offers a broad exposure to print and online publishing and an opportunity to acquire hands-on production/editorial experience while providing administrative and office support for multiple Production Editors and a Managing Editor. We are currently seeking someone who is interested in working remotely from their home office in one of the following states:  CA, CO, GA, HI, MA, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, WA, or WI.

The Production Assistant supports the Production Department through the following tasks, with an emphasis on attention to detail, consistency, and customer service:

  • Assisting with preparation of materials for journals’ Editorial Committee meetings
  • Assisting with meeting logistics and routine administrative tasks
  • Researching and updating author affiliation and contact information; entering information into a central database in a timely manner and accurately from a variety of sources
  • Logging typeset manuscripts into tracking system, noting and fixing errors as appropriate
  • Preparing front and back matter for journals as applicable
  • Confirming corrections are made correctly by the compositor
  • Reviewing and tracking printer proofs
  • Developing solid working relationships with Production Editors, Managing Editors, and other Production Department and Annual Reviews colleagues
  • Reporting project status to Managing Editors on a regular basis

Qualified candidates must have:

  • Experience working with and communicating with academic faculty, preferably scientists or engineers
  • Experience entering information into a central database in a timely manner and accurately from a variety of sources
  • Bachelors or higher degree, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in and effective use of Word, Excel, and Acrobat and database software
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, including the ability to adhere to different styles and guidelines
  • Demonstrated commitment to producing high quality work
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent command of the English language, and the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact
  • A professional demeanor and the ability to develop and maintain long-term business relationships
  • A strong work ethic and solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to use close vision to look up information or proofread documents on a computer screen or paper, ability to use color vision to determine the accuracy of figure captions and in-text references and the ability to adjust focus to evaluate content for typographical errors

The starting salary range for Colorado candidates only in this role will be $22.50 – 23.13/hour. Actual compensation will be determined by several factors including but not limited to: level of experience, skills, and specific home office location.
