Macmillan Learning’s Content – STEM team is seeking an Associate Project Editor. This person will be responsible for the overall health of their respective discipline portfolio and ensuring that market needs and requirements are represented to our digital product group as we build digital products for the discipline. The STEM Associate Project Editor will have experience cultivating relationships, an understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with publishing, and is able to work effectively with others to implement and advocate for strategies to transition the list from print to digital with an emphasis on enhancing learning.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage list initiatives, contribute to strategy across the list or division, develop leadership in understanding how educational trends will affect current and inform future strategy, and be a lead/point of contact with other divisions in the company.
  • Support digital transformation through participation in initiatives with the Product team, and Media and Assessment Editorial
  • Collaborate with the digital product group to identify and articulate functionality requirements that execute a market-informed digital strategy.
  • Ensure that publication of all discipline products are timely to market, competitive, and creative, and meet their financial and sales goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for our authors, content developers/advisors, and resource team members.
  • Develop relationships with potential authors, reviewers, and members of the discipline community.
  • Negotiate financial arrangements.
  • Recruit reviewers, thought leaders, faculty advisory boards, and key decision-makers and plan the development of products in the portfolio.
  • Research, plan, and execute the development and integration of multimedia-based teaching and learning resources to provide for a robust program.
  • Develop plans for a competitive digital portfolio that allows for future innovation.
  • Consider Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in all aspects of program management and innovation, working to ensure that students of all backgrounds and experiences can see themselves in our products.
  • Utilize editorial tools and resources and attend workshops and training to support Macmillan Learning’s DEI values.
  • As a leader for the team, provide assistance and guidance to editorial team members in support of discipline goals and initiatives.
  • Develop a keen sense of the discipline marketplace, as well as key thought leadership opportunities, and use that market knowledge to inform plans for the growth of the program, as well as create points of differentiation for Macmillan Learning v. the competition in the discipline.
  • Interact with the discipline community, monitor industry trends, and identify and understand customer challenges to inform product development, and seek new and diverse contributors to our editorial program.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, learning solutions specialists, as appropriate, to ensure successful sales of all discipline products and titles.
  • Find new adoptions through events and outreach, working with reps and marketing managers to sell products and refine marketing messages.
  • Monitor opportunity pipeline and sampling to ensure that revenue goals will be met.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Program Manager, manage and serve as the strategic decision-maker for their program to accurately evaluate, identify and address existing and potential budgetary issues, obstacles, and opportunities to optimize the health of the portfolio.
  • Work closely with the financial team and other partners to analyze and synthesize information to understand issues, risks, identify options, and support sound decision-making.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Program Manager manage and serve as the key decision-maker for the discipline P&Ls for digital products, franchises, and titles, and new product models working closely with development, production, and others to control costs and ensure profitability.
  • Use data, analysis of markets and trends, and insights from sales, marketing, and finance to determine appropriate sales forecasts and pricing strategies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • 2+ years’ experience in higher educational publishing/learning company
  • Experience with educational technology and ability to work cross-functionally with media and product teams
  • Experience applying excellent written & verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills with a variety of audiences
  • Proven to have good editorial judgment and skill
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects, to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to delegate and benchmark effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to form productive, collaborative working relationships with authors, author teams, and in-house teams including marketing, content and assessment development, media editorial and production
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
