Publishing Sales Assistant | VIZ Media


  1. Creates, prepares, and distributes recurring and ad hoc publishing sales reports
  2. Provides analysis and perspective of publishing sales reporting to identify market, retail, and title trends
  3. Responsible for gathering and delivering all needed sales materials and product information required by publishing distribution partners and communicating material deadlines to all relevant VIZ Media teams for relevant imprints
  4. Assists in providing quality control and proofreading of publishing sales materials
  5. Assists in creating, trafficking, and gathering assets for all VIZ Media publishing catalogs for relevant imprints
  6. Assists in preparing reports, presentations, and sell sheets for meetings with licensors, and distribution and retail partners
  7. Provides publishing related assistance and solutions to consumers and retailers whose communication reaches the home office
  8. Prepares and organizes documents for departmental meetings
  9. Creates, compiles, and distributes monthly key buyer mailings and sales kits
  10. Assists Senior Manager, Publishing Sales in assessment and management of initial print quantity and reprint needs Senior Manager, Publishing Sales in gathering multiple historic and current data points for relevant imprints for the sales budget
  11. Assists with other general departmental needs, including organization of department events and coordination of shipping publishing sales materials to outside events and conventions

In addition to these duties, may perform other duties as assigned.


  • Basic understanding/comprehension of accounting and sales terminology a MUST
  • Experience/interest in media publishing, comics industry, retail marketing, and sales a PLUS
  • Knowledge of anime and manga a PLUS
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Proficiency with computer usage, including email, Internet, and standard software
  • MUST have experience supporting a sales team
  • Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English
  • Ability to pay strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse clients, providers, and staff
  • Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork
  • Ability to work legally in the United States
  • Ability to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area
  • MUST be able to travel as needed


  • 1-2 years of practical business experience, preferably in an administrative capacity as part of a Sales team or as part of a relevant internship program
  • Equivalent of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position


This position does not supervise the work of others, but may provide guidance to interns and freelancers.


Approximately 90% of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices.  Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending.  Must be able to use standard office equipment such as copiers and faxes.  MUST be able to travel both domestically and internationally as needed.
