Senior Manager, Publishing

The Water Environment Federation is seeking a Senior Manager of Publishing to join its team. This position will be responsible for developing and managing initiatives to grow publishing revenue, and increase member engagement, including strategic partnerships, content platforms, and licensing and distribution operations.

Principal Functions:

  • Develop and manage publishing partnerships for ventures such as WEFPress manuals, co-branded titles, research journal, and new translations.
  • Negotiate co-publishing agreements, licensing agreements, and foreign language rights.
  • Research new markets for publications and cultivate distribution agreements with key resellers.
  • Support major content platform projects and recommend new features to enhance user experience.
  • Evaluate and implement e-commerce solutions in collaboration with IT, Finance, and other departments.
  • Research and identify trends relevant to WEF’s scholarly publications and apply them to current business strategies.
  • Initiate strategic growth plans to support overall engagement and profitability goals.
  • Manage licensing and permissions operations.
  • Develop P&L statements and business plans for new technical publications.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Publishing staff on annual budget.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, publishing, or related field.
  • 10+ years publishing experience, including at least 5 years in digital publishing and e-commerce.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the current print and digital publishing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience building digital content platforms that deliver desired results.
  • Proactive, collaborative approach and demonstrated comfort level owning projects.
  • Strong track record of researching successful new business opportunities.
  • Outstanding negotiating skills and aptitude for creative problem-solving.
  • Nimble forward-thinker with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong research and analysis skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Association experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • This person will work primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment.
