WHAT IS THE ROLE ABOUT?  This role offers a unique opportunity to be the creative force behind conceptualizing brand new SLA  products as well as leading the charge with refining existing SLA and our Children’s & Young Adult (C&YA) products. The SLA Product Director leverages their deep product, customer and market knowledge to drive the direction of both SLA and C&YA product development.  Working on a small team, the SLA Editorial Product Director is a hands-on doer, who is as comfortable getting in the weeds of editorial decisions as they are developing complex strategic plans to launch game changing SLA programs and products driving growth. Reporting to the EVP of K12 & General Manager, the SLA Product Director is committed to championing the evolving needs of this unique and growing market and building successful digital first products.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

Participate in and contribute to overall strategy and pub planning of Spanish Language Arts and C&YA programs and corresponding teacher support materials.
Contribute to technology development plans as they relate to SLA programs, providing critical evaluation of product and business needs, and documenting business requirements.
Train, mentor and coach up and coming as well as experienced editors on the SLA market, editorial best practices, products and so on.
Manage the SLA department budget.
Collaborate with managers in the areas of Project Management, Tech Production, Product Management, Permissions, Photo and Design to establish effective and efficient processes and workflows between groups.
Work with EVP of K12 & General Manager to establish and maintain editorial development guidelines and processes. Collaborate with Product Directors of other business units
Oversee the editorial development functions, including: conceptualizing, planning, budgeting, and prototyping of new product; managing the writing and editing phases of manuscript and tech development.
YOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

Bachelor’s degree minimum required
5+ years of people management experience (freelancers or employees)
7+ years of experience as an Editor building comprehensive ‘core’ products in the K-12 SLA market
10+ years of comprehensive editorial experience within education publishing
Prior experience building and conceptualizing new SLA products and programs
Full proficiency of Spanish grammar and language skills
Expert knowledge of the needs and landscape of the K12/young adult (ages 18-24) and SLA market/industry
Strong knowledge of editorial (print and digital) processes and best practices including pedagogy
Prior experience working on and creating ‘digital first’ or ‘digital only’ products
10% travel required (though more if remote)
IDEAL IF YOU HAVE or ARE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

A strong strategic thinker and are able to effectively pivot between initiatives and related challenges
Proven experience developing and carrying out complex and effective projects and plans
Results oriented and able to balance ‘big picture’ thinking with detailed and highly organized execution
An advanced degree
MATESOL Certification

Hybrid or Remote: Our ideal candidate would be based in the Boston, MA area and work on a hybrid schedule, though we are open to remote applicants for this position, remote employees are expected to travel to our Boston, MA office on an as needed basis. Candidates must meet this requirement in order to be considered..
