SUMMARY:Contentpreneurs: What Editors Should Know About Literary Agents
DESCRIPTION:What’s a literary agent do\, anyway?\n\nAnd now that self-publishing is viable\, is an agent even necessary? Bay Area literary agent Mike Larsen will give the scoop on all this and more in this presentation hosted by the San Francisco Bay Area Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) chapter.\n\nMike and his late wife\, Elizabeth Pomada\, escaped New York publishing in the early ’70s to come to San Francisco\, where they founded the Larsen-Pomada agency. In the past few years\, Mike has transitioned to author coaching and has literally written the book on How to Write a Book Proposal\, How to Get a Literary Agent\, and Guerrilla Marketing for Authors: 100 Weapons for Selling Your Work.\n\nThis is an opportunity to hear directly from a literary agent about the process of finding an agent and writing a compelling book proposal\, insights we as editors can use to better assist our authors on their path to publishing.\n\n\n\nLearn more about Mike Larsen at larsenauthorcoaching.com.\n\n

SUMMARY:EFA Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area chapter event: How to Win at the Pricing Game When You’re a Freelance Editor
DESCRIPTION:Many freelance editors struggle when deciding how much to charge and what pricing method to use. What if a potential client thinks your prices are too high? What if you underestimate the time needed to complete a project and will have to ask the client for more money or you’ll earn less than you planned on? This session will answer these and other questions about pricing so that you can feel confident when presenting your rates\, increase your earnings\, and overcome price objections.

SUMMARY:EFA and BAEF event: Conversation with Amy J. Schneider
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our first in-person event since 2019! \nIn an interview with Kristen Tate\, veteran copyeditor Amy J. Schneider will tell the behind-the-scenes story of her new book\, The Chicago Guide to Copyediting Fiction. We’ll hear how the book came about\, why it’s a necessary companion to The Chicago Manual of Style\, and what it’s like to be on the other side of the author-copyeditor relationship. There will be time for audience Q&A as well\, so bring your questions. \nJoin us at 5:30 pm for light appetizers and social time before the presentation at 6:00 pm\, with more time for networking after the talk. We cannot wait to see your faces in person rather than in little Zoom squares! New members are especially encouraged to attend and will be warmly welcomed. \nThe Mechanics Institute follows San Francisco public health guidelines and does not currently have any masking policy in place. Masking is optional but appreciated. \nBAEF is partnering with our friends at the SF/Bay Area Chapter of Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) for this event\, which is free to our respective members.
