What Is the Publisher For?
Jane Friedman (she/her) has spent her entire career in the book publishing industry, with a focus on trend reporting and author education. She is the founder and editor of The Bottom Line, a weekly publishing industry newsletter, and was named Publishing Commentator of the Year by Digital Book World in 2023. Her latest book, The Business of Being a Writer, Second Edition (University of Chicago Press, 2025), received a starred review from Library Journal. In addition to serving on grant panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Creative Work Fund, she works with organizations such as The Authors Guild to bring transparency to the business of publishing.

Join us for a PPN pre-conference meetup with Linda Ruggeri from The Networking Studio. We’ll discuss how we can prepare for the PPN conference so we can be at ease and network effectively, getting the most out of our in-person conference experience.
