AI for Writers with Nina Schuyler

November 14, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Learn to use ChatGPT3 as a tool to help your creative process, and avoid pitfalls. Great for authors and anyone in publishing.

Every month there seems to be a new explosion in AI that reverberates in business, medicine, healthcare, education, and writing. While writers are concerned about AI’s predatory behavior, writers can learn to use it as a tool to help their creative process.

In this session, you’ll learn how to use ChatGPT 3.5 to assist with brainstorming, drafting, editing, and copyediting. You’ll understand the value of writing specific prompts and the need to refine the prompt. You’ll also learn what pitfalls to avoid, especially if used as a research tool. Nina will show you several ways to interact with ChatGPT to come up with story ideas, plot points, tone, and style.

Nina Schuyler is the author of Afterword, about Virginia, a female pioneer in AI who builds the voice of her beloved husband. When he begins to do seemingly unspeakable things, she must decide whether to keep him or kill him. Nina teaches creative writing at Stanford Continuing Studies and the University of San Francisco. Her novel, The Translator, was a finalist for the William Saroyan International Writing Prize; her novel, The Painting, was a finalist for the Northern California Book Award. Her short story collection, In This Ravishing World, won the Prism Prize for Climate Literature and the W.S. Porter Prize and will be published in July 2024.
