Welcome to From the Bench, SFCB’s series of short studio tours with friends near and far. From favorite tools to works in progress, you never know what you’ll learn about from these amazing artists.
This month we’ll chat with artist and printer Mary Bruno of Bruno Press in St. Joseph, Minnesota. For 20 years, Mary has used her antique presses to connect with and unite modern humanity. Her humor and empathy intersect with her craft, creating art that shouts authenticity, honors tradition, teaches history, sparks laughter, evokes tears, and creates meaningful statements. She lives to carve lino blocks, set type, talk about printing with old-timers, teach the manual process to newbies, and be her best self while making the world a happier place.
