Hybrid Salon 48: Design Action Collective: 20 Years of Political Graphics

May 2 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for an in-depth exploration of Design Action Collective’s archives with designer and educator Sabiha Basrai.

Design Action Collective was founded in the early 2000s by two members of Inkworks Press. For over 20 years, the shop has been producing graphics to serve social justice campaigns and grassroots organizations.

This salon will feature the perspectives and insights of Sabiha Basrai, a member of Design Action Collective, as she delves into a curated selection of posters representing decades of movement history and demonstrates what is possible when graphic designers build long term trust and collaborative spaces centering people most impacted by systemic oppression.

From the anti-war posters produced during the Bush administration, to the original Black Lives Matter logo, to immigrant rights work under the Trump administration – the Design Action Collective poster archive provides a story of resistance and relentless activism.

This event is in conjunction with Basrai’s research fellowship at the Archive which includes a pop-up exhibition in our reading room open between April 11 and May 5.

This event is in-person and over zoom.
