SF in SF with Nancy Kress and Jack Skillingstead

Join us on October 14 for a special Saturday SF in SF, when writers Nancy Kress and Jack Skillingstead come to read and talk with Bay Area writer and moderator Cliff Winnig.

Nancy Kress is the author of thirty-three books, including twenty-six novels, four collections of short stories, and three books on writing. Her work has won six Nebulas, two Hugos, a Sturgeon, and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, and has been translated into two dozen languages, including Klingon. In addition to writing, Kress often teaches at various venues around the country and abroad, including a visiting lectureship at the University of Leipzig, a 2017 writing class in Beijing, and the annual intensive workshop Taos Toolbox, which she teaches every summer with Walter Jon Williams.

In 2001 Jack Skillingstead was named a winner in Stephen King’s “On Writing” contest; since then he has published three novels (the most recent is The Chaos Function) and a story collection,, Are You There and Other Stories. He has published more than forty short stories in venues such as Asimov’s, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Realms of Fantasy, and Clarkesworld. His work has appeared in four Year’s Best Anthologies and has been translated into various languages, including Russian, Polish, Czech, Spanish, French, and Chinese. Skillingstead has been nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award and the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award. In a review of Are You There and Other Stories, Tangent called Skillingstead “a major author in the genre of SF.”

Doors open at 6:00 pm; event begins at 6:30 pm. Admission is $10 (no one is turned away for lack of funds). All proceeds benefit the American Bookbinders Museum.

As always, Bookshop West Portal will be on hand with copies of the authors’ works for sale. The event will be recorded for later broadcast by SOMA FM.
