We are looking for an exceptionally talented, experienced, and energetic Rights & Permissions Manager to help supervise our intrepid Rights & Permissions department. Under the direction of the Rights & Permissions Director, this position is responsible for taking on the day-to-day management of the Rights & Permissions team and business. This rights superstar will be adept at managing a team (e.g., talent development, mentoring, task delegation, individual and team goal oversight); negotiating, drafting, and revising complex rights licensing agreements; and problem-solving for complex customer inquiries. Leading with curiosity, optimism, and empathy, the Rights & Permissions Manager will be key in taking our department to the next level as we aim to grow our rights licensing efforts.

Essential Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day tactical oversight for the Rights & Permissions department
Mentor and coach Licensing Specialists and Admin Staff
Monitor inbox and assist with delegation of tasks
Negotiate, draft, edit, review, and sign-off on several types of licensing agreements
Represent the R&P department at various WPS departmental/team meetings
Provide customer service (via email response or phone calls) to potential (and current) pharmaceutical and/or multi-year customers.
Problem-solve complex customer inquiries
Administer and write performance reviews
Assist the Director with forecasting revenue projection and managing the department budget
Manage/track accruals (honorariums)
Represent WPS R&P at industry conferences (hybrid & in-person)
Administer department Timecard/PTO Approvals

Serve as an Interdepartmental Liaison
Calculate and Determine IP (Intellectual Property) pricing for the upcoming year
Prepare submissions for Copyright Registrations and Return of Rights at the Copyright Office
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
BA or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in publishing at an academic/university press/textbook publisher
5+ years of Subsidiary rights licensing experience (e.g., rights clearance, translation rights licensing)
3+ years of Contract Management experience
3+ years of demonstrated exceptional experience of managing others.
Creative problem solving
Detail- and process improvement-oriented

Exceptional team management skills
A passion for learning and helping others

Preferred Qualifications:
BA in Psychology, Business or related field(s), or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in assessment publishing or academic/textbook publishing
3+ years of experience with inbound permissions
2+ years of experience with a Contract Research Organization (CRO)
2+ years of experience with pharmaceutical assessment licensing
Paralegal Certificate or equivalent experience
Demonstrated experience with registering works for copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office and applying for trademarks with the USPTO.
