Adam Levy (he/him) is the publisher of Transit Books, an independent publishing house with a focus on international literature. His authors have received the Nobel Prize in Literature and been finalists for the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the International Booker Prize Prize.

Allegra Bandy

Specializing in author-narrated audiobooks, Allegra Bandy (she/her) CEO and founder of ODDUA AUDIO, provides high quality productions and publications of audiobooks in primarily nonfiction and personal development genres. ODDUA AUDIO offers a “true voice” listening experience, working with authors and publishers nationally and internationally. Based in Oakland, California, Allegra provides expertise in audio engineering, editing and publishing for audiobooks, podcasts, music productions, and digital audio education. She also offers highly trained vocal abilities for radio, television, singing, narration and voiceover work, as well as vocal coaching. For the past 20 years, Allegra has developed a range of experience in the entertainment and recording industries, in K–12 and adult education, nonprofit administration, and journalism.

Andre Angeles
Panelist | Senior Manufacturing Coordinator, Center for the Collaborative Classroom
Andre Angeles (he/him) is native to San Francisco and the Bay Area. After graduating from San Jose State in advertising, he immediately began his career as an advertising traffic manager for local and national publications such as 7×7 Magazine and InfoWorld. Having always been on the manufacturing side of news publishing, he segued into brand manufacturing by contracting with companies Campari and Clorox. Working closely with their ad agencies, he executed the production of a wide variety of marketing materials such as coupon tags, point-of-purchase displays, and signage. Andre joined the Center for the Collaborative Classroom in 2018. He has since seen a lot of growth in the educational publishing field, and has taken on a greater role as the senior manufacturing coordinator taking the lead on new packaging designs and deliverables.

Becky Parker Geist
Moderator and Panelist | CEO and Founder, Pro Audio Voices and AMPlify Audiobooks™
Becky Parker Geist (they/them) is the founder and CEO of Pro Audio Voices and AMPlify Audiobooks™, president of BAIPA, and host of the Audiobook Connection podcast. They typically work with rights-holders who have had some publishing success but aren’t reaching their full potential. By producing, distributing, and marketing audiobooks and podcasts, they create exceptional audio experiences to reach more people while providing the tools and higher royalties rights-holders deserve. Becky is also the author of five independently published books.

Betsy Miller
Panelist | Co-Founder and Publisher, Thinking Ink Press
Betsy Miller (she/her) writes books on health and disability topics and is a retired technical writer. She co-founded Thinking Ink Press, where she handles a mix of publishing tasks including acquisitions, crowdfunding, developing special sales channels, and production management. When she’s reading for fun, Betsy likes light or cozy novels—mainly in the mystery and fantasy genres, and the occasional young adult or children’s book. She also likes jigsaw puzzles, nature walks, traveling, and tea.

Carolyn Kemp

Carolyn Kemp (she/her) has been in the publishing industry for 30-plus years, beginning her career in educational publishing at Addison-Wesley (Pearson), where, as an admin, she was curious about how books were made and soon transferred to the manufacturing department. When A-W’s educational materials were reassigned to Scott-Foresman, she moved on to trade publishing at Klutz, working on book-plus-materials and later point-of-purchase displays, signage, and store fixtures that displayed Klutz books in the retail environment. After Scholastic acquired Klutz, she found herself back in educational publishing, where she is currently director of manufacturing at the Center for the Collaborative Classroom (formerly Developmental Studies Center), a nonprofit, mission-driven organization.

Chloe Wong

Chloe Wong (she/her) is currently a marketing manager at University of California Press, where she focuses on product discoverability and brand voice. She is chair of communications and a board member for Bay Area Women in Publishing. She started her career in publishing at Berrett-Koehler Publishers after graduating from UC Berkeley.

Danielle Goodman

Danielle Goodman (she/her) is the founder of TheGoodGood, a boutique editorial consultancy in San Francisco. She has been an independent developmental editor for fifteen years, working on New York Times bestsellers by authors in the fields of leadership, inclusion, creativity, entrepreneurship, social justice and social responsibility, sustainability, personal development, expanding consciousness, and health and wellness. She has worked with traditional and independent publishers including Hachette, Portfolio, St. Martin’s Press, Wiley, Penguin Random House, Berrett-Koehler Publishers, and Sounds True, as well as with hybrid publishers and self-published authors. Born and raised in Trinidad, Danielle lived in Miami and LA before moving to San Francisco. Her background makes her particularly interested in books that center the experiences of immigrants, people of color, and women, and that help individuals to create the space for all their identities to thrive.

David Kudler

David Kudler (he/him) is an author, publisher, and expert provider of design and editorial services to independent publishers. Through his company, Stillpoint Digital Press, he has published more than 100 titles by 20 authors—including himself. He served for more than 20 years as the managing editor of the Collected Works of Joseph Campbell, editing and overseeing the publication of books, ebooks, audiobooks, and audio and video recordings of the late mythologist’s lectures. David is currently working on a series of books for independent and self-publishers on ebook creation, sales, and marketing called Ebooks for Indies, as well as a series of young adult historical adventure novels.

David Van Ness

David Van Ness (he/him) is a graphic design consultant and book compositor. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, he taught typesetting at the first do-it-yourself typesetting bureau in the United States; Harvard Extension sent its graphic design students to his classes to learn type. In San Francisco, he helped bring desktop publishing to maturity as a viable tool for excellent typography. In his spare time, he builds and repairs harpsichords and is president of the board of MusicSources.

Eden Julia Sugay

Eden Julia Sugay (they/them) is currently Senior Manager of Publishing Sales at VIZ Media. Eden is also President of Bay Area Women in Publishing, where they govern committees and programs dedicated to uplifting women and nonbinary folks within the publishing industry located in the Bay Area and beyond. Eden received their BA in English creative writing from Mills College and their MFA in writing from the University of San Francisco.

Holly Lynn Payne
Panelist | Award-Winning Author, Private Writing Coach, and Host and Producer of the Page One Podcast
Holly Lynn Payne (she/her) is an award-winning, internationally published author, private writing coach, and the host and producer of the Page One Podcast. Her debut, The Virgin’s Knot (Penguin/Dutton), was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers book and a Borders Original Voices. Her novel Kingdom of Simplicity won a Benjamin Franklin Award from IBPA. Her most recent novel, Rose Girl, won a Kirkus starred review and was named Editor’s Choice from the Historical Novel Society. She earned an MA from USC and BA in journalism from the University of Richmond, and has served on the faculty of the California College of the Arts, Academy of Art University, San Francisco State University, and Stanford University. She is the former CEO and founder of Booxby, a startup that built AI-powered story discovery software, backed by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Hope Moseley

Hope Moseley (she/her) started her passion for print and graphic design her junior year of high school. She became obsessed with paper, beautiful type, and design and quickly realized this was what made her smile every morning. She continued her passion at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo studying graphic communication. After graduation she joined Hemlock Printers, one of North America’s most innovative, sustainable, and reputable print companies, as an account manager. She services all her clients with outstanding customer service and ensures every project is sought through with care.

Hugh Loveless
Panelist | Senior Sales Executive, BR Printers
Hugh Loveless (he/him) began in the graphic arts industry close to 30 years ago as a manager and print specialist at Xerox Corp, and he applied what he had learned at Xerox after he began work at BR Printers in 1994. BR Printers soon became the dominant print-on-demand book publisher in Silicon Valley and has remained on the cutting edge as books and technologies have evolved. It is today one of the largest book producers in the United States. Hugh has also served in advisory capacities to the inkjet printing industry with Ricoh and HP and as a digital color specialist at Xerox.

Joe Finlaw

Joe Finlaw (he/him) is the director of audio, technology, and website development at North Atlantic Books (NAB.) He built and oversees NAB’s in-house audio production program. Joe’s work in audiobook production is informed by more than three decades of experience in the radio and music industries. He also manages NAB’s website development and IT/Systems. Previous to his NAB tenure, Joe spent more than five years working in both marketing and software development for Nolo Press, an influential DIY legal publisher based in Berkeley.

Johanna Vondeling

Johanna Vondeling (she/her) is founder of Vondeling Ventures, a consultancy supporting nonfiction publishers and authors. She was President and Publisher at Berrett-Koehler Publishers through December, 2022. She previously served as BK’s Vice President for International Sales and Business Development and as Vice President for Editorial and Digital, having joined the company in 2004. Before that, she worked for Jossey-Bass (a Wiley imprint), W. W. Norton, and Holt, Rinehart, and Winston. In addition to serving on the board of Bay Area Women in Publishing, she is the proud recipient of PPN’s 2020 Distinguished Service Award.

Josh Wilson

Josh Wilson (he/him) is an editor and writer in San Francisco. He is also the publisher of The Fabulist Words & Art, an independent venue for fantastical fiction and art, plus related nonfiction, in print and digital editions.

Justine Eva Li Villanueva
Panelist | Founder, Sawaga River Press
Justine Eva Li Villanueva (she/her) immigrated from Bukidnon, Philippines, and is now learning to dwell in Davis, California, the Wintun-Patwin homeland. She is the founder of Sawaga River Press, an innovative nonprofit small press that publishes multilingual books highlighting Filipino/a/x American stories, diversity and social justice, and our relationships with each other, the land, and our human and more-than-human ancestors. Justine is one of the five inaugural Innovators of the Independent Book Publishers Association’s Innovative Voices Program. Prior to Sawaga River Press, Justine managed her independent law practice in bankruptcy and immigration, and also worked as a state attorney. Justine is always ready to dance, sing, and listen to stories.

Katryce Campbell

Katryce Campbell (they/them) is currently senior publicist at University of California Press, where they collaborate with authors across disciplines and serve on the DEIA committee with a commitment to amplifying underrepresented perspectives in the publishing industry and public conversation. Katryce received their BA in English language and literature from the University of Chicago and an MSc in literature and modernity from the University of Edinburgh.

Kristen Tate

Kristen Tate (she/her) has been a freelance editor for a decade, helping authors transform their work from rough draft to finished book. She has a PhD in English, with a focus on publishing history, from Columbia University. She is the author of Novel Study: Decoding the Secrets and Structures of Contemporary Fiction and writes a regular newsletter full of craft advice and encouragement for authors.

Kristen Tatroe

Kristen Tatroe (she/her) is a freelance developmental editor, copyeditor, writing coach, and instructional designer who has been involved in publishing for more than 20 years. She works with publishers and indie authors, with a focus on fiction, memoir, and cookbooks. Kristen believes the most successful author-editor relationship is not just about helping an author improve their manuscript—it’s also about helping an author see their strengths and how to continue to build their writing skills.

Linda Ruggeri

Linda Ruggeri (she/her) is a bilingual (EN/SP) nonfiction editor and writer based out of Napa Valley, California, the author of Networking for Writers, and the co-author of Networking for Freelance Editors: Practical Strategies for Networking Success, which won an IBPA Silver Medal Award in 2022. Linda is the co-founder of The Networking Studio and the Argentinean nonprofit 3 Vías Creativas. When she’s not editing, she’s gardening, baking, or trying to be a fun mom, and would gladly trade any night out for a good nonfiction book and a glass of bourbon.

Liza Olmstead

Liza Olmsted (they/them) is a publisher and co-founder of Thinking Ink Press, which was selected as an Innovator in the IBPA’s Innovative Voices Program in 2023 for its mission to publish fiction and nonfiction books that amplify disabled, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent voices. Drawing on their own experience as a neurodivergent person, Liza was the co-editor of The Neurodiversiverse: Alien Encounters, a science fiction anthology featuring own-voices short stories, poems, and art on the theme of neurodivergent people encountering aliens. Lizzie Davis

Lizzie Davis (she/her) is an executive editor at Transit Books and a translator from Spanish to English. Her recent translations include Juan Cárdenas’s The Devil of the Provinces (longlisted for the 2023 National Book Award for Translated Literature) and Ornamental (finalist for the 2021 PEN Translation Prize), as well as work by Elena Medel, Daniela Tarazona, Begoña Gómez Urzaiz, and Pilar Fraile.

María Jesús Aguilo

María Jesús Aguilo (she/her) moved to California from her native Spain in 1992, after receiving a master’s in publishing from the University of Barcelona. In 1996 she joined the independently owned Berrett-Koehler Publishers, where she made several contributions over the years, including building up their subsidiary rights program, spearheading the transition to digital publishing, and creating their in-house audiobook publishing program. Recently, she joined Blue Star Press as their rights and contracts director.

Matt Strain

Matt Strain (he/him) has built a dynamic career at the intersection of innovation and creativity, leading teams through transformative technological shifts at companies like Apple, AltaVista, and Adobe. His work centers on the human side of innovation—exploring how technology can amplify, rather than replace, our creative intuition. With decades of experience spanning cultures, industries, and emerging technologies, Matt is an expert at bridging the gap between technical expertise and human connection. During his tenure at Adobe’s research lab, he managed the innovation pipeline and helped spearhead groundbreaking efforts to combat fake news and disinformation. In 2022 Matt founded The Prompt, a consultancy dedicated to helping leaders and teams demystify AI. His innovative work with AI has been featured in The New York Times and Forbes.

Mike Jung

Mike Jung (he/him) is the author of Geeks, Girls, and Secret Identities, Unidentified Suburban Object, and The Boys in the Back Row, and has contributed to the anthologies (Don’t) Call Me Crazy, The Hero Next Door, and You Are Here: Connecting Flights. He served as a judge for the 2024 National Book Awards in the category of Young People’s Literature, and is a founding member of the #WeNeedDiverseBooks team. Mike lives with his family in Oakland, California.

Nick Walker

Nick Walker (any pronouns) is a leading thinker on neurodiversity, an author of both fiction and nonfiction, and a managing editor at the worker-owned indie publishing house Autonomous Press. His nonfiction work includes the influential essay collection Neuroqueer Heresies, and his fiction writing projects include the urban fantasy webcomic Weird Luck. Dr. Walker is a professor of psychology and psychedelic studies at California Institute of Integral Studies and teaches aikido at the Aiki Arts Center in Berkeley.

Nicole LoBello

Nicole LoBello (she/her) is the Manager of Production and Sales Operations at Qualibre Inc., a global book brokerage company that specializes in connecting publishers to an extensive network of printers. In her role she oversees production efforts and drives efficiency within the sales process by implementing new technologies and optimized workflows. Prior to joining Qualibre, she led a team of account managers at an emerging tech company. Nicole has a passion for books and in her spare time you can find her reading the latest popular thriller or fiction novel at her local coffee shop in Jersey City.

Niloufar Talebi
Panelist | Author, Award-Winning Translator, Multidisciplinary Artist, and Educator
Niloufar Talebi (she/her) is an author, award-winning translator, multidisciplinary artist, and educator. Her work spans literary translation, opera, theater, and multimedia, showcasing her innovative approach to the arts. She is the author of Self-Portrait in Bloom and Belonging: New Poetry by Iranians Around the World (North Atlantic Books, 2008). For over a decade, she has led a project honoring the Nobel-Prize nominated Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlou, which culminated in the forthcoming book Elegies of the Earth: Selected Poems by Ahmad Shamlou (World Poetry Books, 2025), supported by an NEA Translation Fellowship. A Fulbright U.S. Scholar, Niloufar teaches creativity and creative writing at Stanford Continuing Studies.

Sarah Serafimidis

Sarah Serafimidis (she/her) began her publishing career with North Atlantic Books in 2000, after many years in the medical data management field. After trying on a few “hats”—customer service, project editing, contracts, and more—she found her niche and has enjoyed managing subsidiary rights licensing at NAB for the past 20 years. Sarah lives in Albany with her husband and daughter and spends her free time playing guitar and singing in a couple cover bands and enjoying good food and wine with friends.

Simona Gheorghiu

Simona Gheorghiu (she/her) is a book addict, print geek, bird lover, and travel enthusiast. She loves book production and printing challenges—problem solving manufacturing conundrums is a specialty! Give Simona a good book to read and admire, and she’s over the moon! She began her career in the development department at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where she went on press for the annual report and was hooked to CMYK offset printing. From there she worked at HarperCollins and eventually found her calling in sales and production at Asia Pacific Offset. For the last 20 years she has had the opportunity to work on many diverse projects and is excited to share her expertise with the members of PPN.

Teresa Iafolla

Teresa Iafolla (she/her) is currently a marketing manager at UC Press. She is also a member of the FirstGen Program committee, which supports first-generation scholars with book publishing grants and resources to demystify publishing. She has worked in a range of marketing and editorial roles, including as an associate editor for a healthcare and education publisher, a research consultant for a community college district, a director of content marketing for a healthcare start-up, and a content marketing manager for a workplace consulting company. Teresa has a BA in English literature and psychology from the College of William & Mary and an MA in sociology from UC Davis.
